The dining room had many layers of wallpaper on it. I steamed them
off. As I got to the bottom layer I found that original wallpaper was a
deep blue with flowers in deep colors with silver and gold designs. I
decided to paint the walls a color just about the same as the
background of the wallpaper. I then put up a deep blue border with
gold and silver trim in it and hung a set of Navy blue double layer
curtains and put down a round area rug.
The table I bought from a local antique dealer. Someone had
striped it and put a pickling affect on it. The buffet in the
background came out of the attic of another old house in town a
neighbor was remodeling. All that was left was the frame and the
two doors. I had a couple drawers from a dresser that fit and
some desk parts I get the top and side panels. In the picture
below you see the table has been refinished and stain to give a
more aged look. A set of chairs were refinished to match and the
seats upholstered with a brown covering.
Some picture sounds my mistakes before I was interested in restoring my
house back to more how it would have looked 100 years ago. Like
painting the wall too light of color of blue. Covering the floor with vinyl
flooring because it had some stains and damage. I hope to correct the
floor in the future.
